Press Release: 1st July 2019

Somerset business CME Ltd has been named International Company of the Year at Business South West Insider’s Global Growth Awards after doubling its annual turnover from £7m to a staggering £14m within just three years.

At a time when big names in the manufacturing sector are struggling, this South West business has proved itself to be one of the UK’s great home-grown success stories.

Founded in 1983 by Colin Mear, CME Ltd has grown from a family-owned start-up that provided spare parts to the tobacco industry, into a resilient, highly innovative engineering business that has exported machinery to FMCG and pharmaceutical companies in more than 130 countries.

Paul Knight, Managing Director of CME Ltd, who was at the event to collect the award, said:

“It is no mean feat to achieve the growth we have, and to be recognised for it is something every single person in our 100-strong workforce can take away with them because they are at the very heart of what we do.

“In the past three years we have made significant improvements to our operations and we expect this to continue in line with our strategic plan which focuses on innovation, end market diversification and operational efficiency. More specifically, over the next three-to-four years we plan to double the size of our business again by introducing three new products a year, and expanding further into niches within the pharmaceutical, medical device, food, and industrial automation market segments.”

CME’s long term goal is to become the UK’s number one packaging and process automation solutions provider for innovation and customer experience, a goal it is well on its way to achieving.
