Personal Specification


As the Senior Buyer you will;

  • Lead, develop and inspire a Team to deliver high performance
  • Identify, optimise and drive improvements in the Supply Chain process ensuring an integrated and joined up solution across the business
  • Develop and improve supply chain KPIs and use them to monitor and drive performance
  • Drive strategic supplier reviews and plan for supplier onboarding and exits
  • Manage risk in the supply chain to support business objectives.
  • Communicate any potential issues with delivery, costs, quality or forthcoming changes to technical specifications, develop and action strategies to reduce their impact on the business
  • Forecast price trends and their impact on future activities, develop and action strategies to maximise/reduce their impact on the business
  • Manage materials savings & efficiency initiatives in line with overall business objectives.
  • Purchased category ownership
  • Negotiate and commit purchase orders aligned to CME’s schedule requirements
  • Interrogation of bill of materials leading to sourcing decision making
  • Negotiate and implement partnership agreements with CME Premier and Preferred suppliers
  • Manage schedule adherence from external supply partners in line with business requirements
  • Identify, qualify and implement new and secondary sources of supply or alternative product ranges thus mitigating supply risk
  • Resolution of supplier queries; liaison with relevant departments and timely response to suppliers
  • Responsibility for returned and rejected products to sustainable corrective action(s)
  • Provide quotations in furtherance of spares revenue stream enquiries

Experience Requirements

  • Relevant procurement experience within an engineering environment
  • Experience in negotiations, both ad-hoc and strategic
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Experienced in developing partnerships with suppliers
  • Demonstrable ability to drive cost down and improve commercial conditions with suppliers
  • Willingness to travel if required (estimate 10%)
  • Team leader or management experience - desirable

Desired Skills

  • Good IT skills in Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • MCIPS qualified or working towards
