CME To Launch Ultra Hygienic Robotic Food Handling Cell at PPMA Total Show in Birmingham this October

CME LTD, the award-winning British engineering business, is unveiling a new precision, robotic food handling system at this year’s PPMA Total Show in Birmingham, 1-3 October.  Reported to be one of the most hygienic systems on the market the HFPC 120 has been designed by CME in conjunction with Stäubli, utilising their newly released HE fully hygienic robot range. It is one of the few on the market designed specifically for orientating and placing primary meat products such as chicken portions, steaks and burgers, into trays.  Benefits of the system include productivity improvement through the packaging process.

Specifically designed to meet EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group) exacting standards the HFPC 120 utilises a modular approach and allows the cell to be customised in a way that exactly matches the requirements of a customer’s food processing line.

“Part of our strategy at CME is to create products that help solve tomorrow’s problems for our customers today,” explained Ian Marks, Technical Sales Manager at CME Ltd.” The concept for this cell evolved through conversations we had with Stäubli Robotics around labour, ROI and equipment flexibility issues in the meat PROCESSING sector.  By placing this at the core of our design philosophy and following EHEDG guidelines we’ve addressed our customers’ needs AT DESIGN STAGE rather than as an afterthought. The level of detail paid to the hygienic design is truly extraordinary.

“We visit the PPMA show every year; it’s a great opportunity for us to showcase our latest, most innovative technologies to new and existing customers, suppliers and partners. We are excited to bring something very new to this year’s show and have taken the decision to build a physical demo cell so customers can see it in the flesh rather than on a screen”.

CME’s HFPC 120 will be available to see at PPMA stand G150. The CME team will also be available to discuss other product offerings ranging from wrapping and cartoning or device assembly to complete bespoke automation solutions across multiple market sectors.

Somerset business CME Ltd has been named International Company of the Year at Business South West Insider's Global Growth Awards after doubling its annual turnover from £7m to a staggering £14m within just three years.

At a time when big names in the manufacturing sector are struggling, this South West business has proved itself to be one of the UK's great home-grown success stories.

Founded in 1983 by Colin Mear, CME Ltd has grown from a family-owned start-up that provided spare parts to the tobacco industry, into a resilient, highly innovative engineering business that has exported machinery to FMCG and pharmaceutical companies in more than 130 countries.

Paul Knight, Managing Director of CME Ltd, who was at the event to collect the award, said:

"It is no mean feat to achieve the growth we have, and to be recognised for it is something every single person in our 100-strong workforce can take away with them because they are at the very heart of what we do.

“In the past three years we have made significant improvements to our operations and we expect this to continue in line with our strategic plan which focuses on innovation, end market diversification and operational efficiency. More specifically, over the next three-to-four years we plan to double the size of our business again by introducing three new products a year, and expanding further into niches within the pharmaceutical, medical device, food, and industrial automation market segments.”

CME’s long term goal is to become the UK’s number one packaging and process automation solutions provider for innovation and customer experience, a goal it is well on its way to achieving.
